About the Symposium

The 2026 Symposium on Surveillance-Response Systems Leading to Tropical Disease Elimination will be held in Shanghai, China, on 21–23 September 2026. The eighth symposium brings together experts, researchers and partners to exchange experience and advance surveillance-response systems for tropical disease elimination.

Since 2012, seven previous symposia have provided a platform for international exchange and cooperation. The series has supported the development of networks for malaria, schistosomiasis, echinococcosis, cysticercosis and neglected tropical diseases, and the sharing of experience from bilateral and multilateral projects.

Under the theme “Breaking Barriers and Driving Innovation: Surveillance-Response Systems for Tropical Disease Elimination Amid Global Health Transformation”, this year’s symposium will examine challenges and opportunities in global health, promote cooperation across networks, and exchange new approaches and technologies for surveillance, diagnosis, treatment and elimination.

Objectives

· Share experience and achievements in surveillance-response systems for tropical disease control and elimination.

· Strengthen partnerships and regional networks, and exchange experience in international cooperation.

· Discuss advances and challenges in tropical disease research, and promote innovation in diagnosis, treatment, interventions and elimination.
